Joel van Weel
|
Joel van Weel is an 18 year old sailor from Jindabyne (in the Snowy Mountains). Growing up on the Mornington Peninsula he began sailing at the age of 8, starting Saturday sail training in a Minnow. In 2000, at the age of 10, Joel competed in his first major regatta - the Victorian Minnow Championships. From this point forward Joel competed regularly in local, state and national competition, winning the junior division of the 2002 Victorian Minnow Championships. Throughout the previous 6 years, Joel has sailed a variety of regattas in many types of boats including Hobies, Flying Ants, 29ers and currently his Laser Radial. His current pursuit towards Australian representation at the World Championships, and possibly the Olympics has seen him win the 2009 Victorian Port Phillip Championships and the youth divisions at the 2009 Victorian Youth and State Championships held in March this year. Considering sailing is such a demanding, outdoor sport, Joel has welcomed Sun Zapper's unique sun protection products to shield his skin whilst out on the water. Sun Zapper also made it possible for Joel to attend the Australian Laser Championships (held in W.A.) and both the Sydney International Regatta and the Sail Melbourne World Cup. Joel's Sun Zapper products of choice are the Ultra SPF 30+ Clear Zinc Sunscreen and the Sun Zapper Zinc sticks. |
